Sakaemachi Goshuin Tour

The principal deity enshrined here is Amenohiwashi-no-Mikoto, whose descendants have been revered as gods of hemp cultivation for generations, and who are also worshipped in this area, which is closely associated with hemp. During the Bunka-Bunsei era, it was called Washinomiya (Washigaoka Shrine), but around 1893, it came to be called Owashi Shrine.

Furthermore, during the Edo period, Kasuga no Tsubone held this deity in high esteem. When Takechiyo became the third shogun, she celebrated the occasion by receiving a golden eagle, which had been placed on the bow of the shogun's ship as a charm against evil, at the shogun's request. It is now preserved as a treasure and is known as a god of success and good fortune.
